What to Pack: Mexico Wedding Edition

How refreshing is it to head to a warm weather destination while there is snow falling on the ground at home??!? For me, it’s my favorite thing next to actually sitting on the beach. The fact that I don’t have to deal with a massive overweight suitcase and a million layers is heavenly.

First – I NEVER check a suitcase unless I absolutely have to. Meaning I need to be heading out on a very long trip in order to justify that additional cost and stress.  So as I’ve said BEFORE(hint hint you should check out my other packing guides)  it’s imperative to go in with a plan. For this recent trip to Mexico to Hotel EsenciaI was heading down for a dear friend’s wedding so was fortunate enough to have a solid itinerary in place, if you don’t know your itinerary that’s completely fine, just try to get pieces together that can be versatile.

And even better about beach vacations?  Swimsuits and light, breezy dresses take up so much less space than sinter gear like sweaters

Also – lots more travel details to come but to say that I am obsessed with Hotel Esencia is an understatement. If you find yourself in Mexico in the Riviera Maya (a quick 45 minute drive to Tulum) definitely consider a few nights here. It is the epitome of heavenly.

Priority: Bathing suits

I scooped up a few chic new suits from Beach 2 Ocean for this trip! Knowing that I was going to basically wake up and put a suit on meant that was basically my outfit for the days’ festivities.

Carmen Marc Valvo leopard two piece

I LOVEEEEE this suit. It’s chic, classic and let’s be honest, the high waisted cut on the bottom is a nice alternative to my smaller Brazilian fitting bottoms!

Michael Kors Grunge One-Shoulder bikini

This suit is just killer. I received SO many compliments on it. The color combination of the wine with the gold detailing

Fit tips?  Both the top and bottom run true to size. The bottoms are full coverage too.

Vince Camuto color block two piece

Absolutely loved this suit and it was so perfect for all of the activities we did like two-hours of paddling boarding. Fit tips? Go down a size in both pieces

Carmen Marc Valvo leopard cut out one piece

Dead. Literally dead. Again, OBSESSED with this suit. Have you ever found a more chic one piece? I wore this solo out by the pool one day, tossed sheer black pants on it for drinks at the beach bar and even wore it with a fringe skirt for the after after party one evening. Hello multi-tasking little suit.

Beach cover ups:

I rarely go on a vacation without cut-offs because they are easy but this trip I went with a fun beach coverup dress that basically yelled “hey, take me to Mexico!” so this Ruby YaYa dress I picked up for $95 at Unique Samples was the ONLY coverup I took with me. Also a MUST have is a great beach bag . I’m totally smitten with my custom ‘ON THE 10’ Poolside Bag that I got. It not only holds. all of the essentials but I also managed to put my laptop in there and use it as my carryon bag for the flight. I’d call that a solid purchase if you ask me!

White party!

The attire was resort chic. While I did not get a picture of my white party look I will say the Brazilians know how to do a white party. The bride and groom arrived looking stunning in bold red ensembles while all guests arrived in their finest resort chic whites. Mine was a pairing of these Trina Turk white shorts  and this Caroline Costas white one shoulder top. Note to self, don’t try to balance in the sand in wedges while holding red sangria in a white outfit 😉

Bridal Luncheon

When you get invited to attend a bridal luncheon in a former Princess’ summer house in Mexico one must dress the part, am I right? The attire? A fun summer dress that is on constant vacation rotation, like this For Love & Lemons that I purchased on a whim a few years ago and it’s perfect for almost any beachside occasion!

Rehearsal dinner

Attire: Beach Cocktail

A wedding in Mexico definitely allows one to be even more playful than usual when it comes to attire.  For me that meant breaking out this off the shoulder frilly number that I actually rented from Rent the Runway earlier this year and fell in love with it so much that I purchased it! The perfect dress to wear for a rehearsal dinner – the material making it slightly less formal and the flirtatious ruffles mean that you can dance the night away when the happy couple busts out a full on band to just set the tone for what the big event is going to actually be like.

How to wear it?

I paired it with a nude heel but as you can see those got taken off immediately because you can’t be on a sandy beach trying to learn to salsa dance if you are sinking in your heels. Hair loose curls! Makeup? A la natural with a little mascara and a pink lip because I had to embrace that fresh sun-kissed glow!

The big event!

Attire: Beach formal

As I’ve expressed in the past these attire descriptions can get quite confusing! For this wedding, as I knew how to decode the bride’s thoughts I went with this impeccable black lace number. Not black-tie level but not too casual, it was just right.

The draped long sleeve lace detail over the midi black dress was the perfect choice – especially for when the dancing started and I needed to take the heels off (do we see a pattern yet?!)
