The Travel Diaries: Escaping to Park City with Utopian Luxury Vacation Homes

I grew up with parents who had very different opinions on how they wanted to spend vacations, thanks to their split differences we spent winters on the ski slopes and summers at the beach.

While I grew up going to Colorado, I started skiing in Utah when I was at Sundance a few years ago and finally understood what the hype was about. I’ve been back a few times but this recent trip took my appreciation for this beautiful place to a whole new level. Even for the non-skiers Park City is without a doubt a perfect winter escape.

Where to stay?

On ski trips whether I’m traveling with friends or my family I love nothing more than cozying up after a long day on the slopes next to a fireplace at a home. It’s worth the investment trust me.  We stayed up in Park City’s prestigious The Colony gated community with Utopian Luxury Vacation Homes

Our house, The Alpine Sanctuary, could not have been more ideal. Tucked away into the mountainside this pristine house was the epitome of a winter escape – with ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes (a dream really for this girl right here!), heated floors throughout the house (yes that is a thing!), a stocked kitchen about as large as my NYC apartment, cozy fireplaces and views for days of the beautiful mountains surrounding us we couldn’t have asked for more.

Each bedroom had its own full bathroom, views for days and walk in closets. With six of us in this house that can accommodate up to 22 we had the run of things but found ourselves nightly spending quality time in the living room, next to the fireplace, watching the sunset over the mountains doing what we do best – chatting about life.

Two other fairly awesome perks of staying at a Utopian Luxury Vacation Homes? There is a concierge at your call – ours, Junior, was not only there to assist with everything from my ski rentals to assisting when we ran out of avocados but he coordinated our reservations from food to activities for us and did a stellar job!

Oh and he knew just what this group of girls needed in a stocked kitchen – lots of fruit and snacks! Not going to Utah anytime soon? Utopian Luxury Vacation Homes has luxury rentals across the US – hello Hawaii!

What to do?

Now onto the really fun stuff.

Get your ski on!

As a big skier the fact that our Utopian Luxury Vacation Home was ski-in / ski-out was essentially like winning the vacation lottery. Our house had a mudroom about the size of my bedroom complete with spots to dry boots, store skis and hang your helmet up at with a door that put you straight onto a run. I managed to squeeze in a few runs between other activities which was downright lovely.

I had never experienced a ski-in/ski-out like this before – it was so convenient I’m not sure I can ever go back to my old ways!  On the last day when the rest of the crew headed home I stayed and hit Deer Valley, a ski only resort about 15 minutes from our house. Ski conditions were incredible. I had skied this mountain in the past so was familiar with the runs but can’t wait until next year when I’m back to hit up a few of the other Ski Utah resorts around the area!

Play in the snow via a snowmobile:

I have only been on a snowmobile twice in my life and this third time was the charm. The six of us piled onto our own snowmobiles and took off for one of the most fun adventures I’ve had to date. We zipped around the mountains on a near pristine sunny morning with the team from Red Pine Adventures who took us all around including flying up and down the side of a small “mountain” – let’s just say we were quite the adventurous crew!

Give Snowshoeing a go:

Snowshoeing for me had admittedly never been high on my list but after about 15 minutes I have to admit I was pretty hooked. It’s easy, so if you aren’t say the adventurous type then this is perfect for you. Plus the views from the top were breathtaking, our awesome guide from All Season Adventures took us up the top to a spot that overlooked Park City!

Go for a swim:

One of the many perks of staying at our Utopian Luxury Vacation Home was most definitely the heated pool and hot tub. Is there really anything that can beat a swim in a heated pool doing some star gazing after a long fun-filled down on the mountain? No the answer is definitely no.

Where to eat and drink?

Let’s be honest, regardless of it you are spending a day on the mountain or not, there is something about that altitude that just makes you hungry.

We did lunch at a few very charming spots on Old Main Street in Park City – including High West whose burgers are out of this world and their house distilled whiskey is definitely worth a drink (or two!). Another must stop is the No Name Saloon – a staple in Park City Utah and a great place to grab a beer and some pretty fantastic bar food.

Since we were staying at such a lush pad in Park City we didn’t feel the need to go out to dinner every night – which honestly why would we every want to leave our little mountainside sanctuary? Junior brought in the chefs from Element Park City who knocked our dinner out of the park with all locally sourced items for a healthy take on hearty food. The duck might have been the best I’ve ever had.   We did do dinner one night in town at The Mustang, a locals spot that has been around for ages but was recently revamped with a few fresh faces in the kitchen.  I always enjoy trying new dishes and am so glad that the team encouraged us to get the elk – it was simply put – incredible.

Need a sweet treat?

There are a number of sweet spots on Old Main Street in Park City but one of the benefits of staying at a house? The access to your very own fire pit to sit outside by and make s’mores. The girls and I had an absolute blast sitting outside around the fire roasting marshmallows and each taking down about 5 s’mores in one sitting. Well deserved after our day of snowshoeing around the mountains!

What a fun trip! I’ve been to PC a number of times and will need to look into these homes on our next visit because it eally is so much better to have a house to go home to! Also next year you should ski Alta or Snowbird – those are our favorites!
