It’s difficult enough to keep up a fitness regime during your daily routine but it’s even more challenging as a frequent traveler to find the motivation to do it. As someone who racked up more flier points in the past year than ever before – though sure a number of them were personal trips but the majority of them were harried, quick, exhausting work trips often pulling me between LA and NYC in under 24 hours – I know a thing or two about attempting to maintain a healthy routine on the go. Stressful? Absolutely but I made sure that I squeezed in a workout no matter what, it’s the best form of a stress reliever there is. By heading into crazed shoots, early sessions, late cocktail filled dinners and red-eye flights it was always imperative that I found ways to workout on the go. You don’t have to compromise anything to be healthy. The number one thing to keep in mind is to have a plan, have something that you are committed to help you make it through those rigorous trips.
I’ve rounded up the hotels, apps and services that are changing the way you stay healthy on the road. No matter where you are.
As an avid traveler it is still shocking to me that hotels don’t have gyms on property and often times can’t recommend one close by. That has been changing but two major hotel chains are leading the way to healthier stays with bigger health and wellness focused initiatives.
The last thing I seem to pack for a trip are my sneakers, which tend to get crammed in somehow every time usually at the cost of a pair of heels. Now Westin has teamed up with New Balance on a gear lending program. BRILLIANT. To help guests pack light and stay fit, Westin now offers New Balance shoes and clothing for guests to use during their stay for only $5.00. Shoes come with brand new socks for you to keep, and the clothing is provided fresh and clean. Now I’ll have room for that backup outfit!
The hotel also keeps a Running Concierge on property to guide you on runs and suggest local paths, which includes running maps that will take you past cool landmarks during a 3 or 5 mile runs. Let’s also take a moment to applaud HR for approving that title and that role, where do I sign up for it?!
The hotel has also partnered with the app FitStar by Fitbit, offering you the opportunity to take your workout anywhere, anytime and well beyond your stay. The partnership will give you a complimentary 30-day membership to FitStar Premium, taking each user’s capabilities, goals and real-time feedback into account to create customized fitness experiences. Win win.
EVEN Hotels (part of the InterContinental Hotel Group newest brand in the U.S) was developed to meet the large and growing demand for a hotel to help wellness-minded travelers keep their balance on the road. The hotel was established to provide a total wellness experience to guests in urban areas. I checked out the newest location near Times Square. The hotel is entirely designed around health and wellness –solutions for all aspects of travelers’ active and healthy needs – with an emphasis on four components, Eating Well, Resting Easy, Keeping Active and Accomplishing More. With this location ideal for either a NYC visitor or someone in town for work, the hotel prides itself on serving as a travel partner to help you feel better and make healthier choices.
In my room I was able to experience their in-room fitness zone which includes a workout on your TV designed entirely around using the room to help you work out. Each room also comes equipped with the proper gear from a bosu ball and bands to light weights. I was a huge fan of this offering. Give me a bosu ball and weights while on a conference call and I’ll be a happy girl.
The brand is all about “Enabling Wellness in Travel” so they launched wellwellwell.com late last year as the go-to source for healthier, happier travel. It’s an online destination and resource for wellness-minded travelers (like me!) which is designed to provide localized and insightful content from staff to cool contributors and lifestyle experts to help you navigate the city you’re in with recommendations and tips on best places to eat, rest, exercise and explore!
Get your game face on:
If you live in NYC or just visiting this app is a must download. TroupeFit will send a personal trainer to your door for the cost of a blowout … perfect for those snowy, cold days when the sheer thought of walking to the gym or a class sounds anything less than exciting.

Take your favorite workout with you:
When you find a workout that you simply love you want to be able to do it even when you’re unable to be in the studio. I was elated to find out that Body Conceptions had an online class that I could do anywhere! All you need is a computer, I didn’t have weights on one trip but you can simply do it sans equipment.
You’ve probably seen and heard about Kayla Itsines’ Bikini Body Guide and if you are one of her highly dedicated followers than you know the excitement that came when the Aussie personal trainer launched her app Sweat so that you can always have her BBG guide with you!
The Tone It Up gals have quite a cult following and rightfully so, the best friends and personal trainers have everything from recipes and workout plans to cute gear to keep you looking good even as you’re sweating out those martini’s from last night’s work dinner. On their Instagram you can get quick, efficient workout moves, which I often do at the gym!
