II Travel Diary: Miami

The Raleigh, Miami, Vacation, Travel, Darling Escapes

Since moving to New York, my mom and I take an annual beach trip during the summer so that we can get in a bit of quality R&R. This year instead of heading to Puerto Rico or down to the BVIs as we’ve done the past couple of years we choose to meet in Miami. Truth be told, this year’s trip was also a last minute adventure thanks to crazed schedules so we had to get creative. We chose Miami as I hadn’t been there in years so I was excited about heading back given that it would allow me the opportunity to explore the city in a different way than I had before (read: I was there for a bachelorette party that last trip!) This year’s trip was filled with long days on the beach, frozen cocktails, dinners outside and daily pampering, fairly rough right?

Keep reading below to find out the details on where to stay, eat and of course where to grab a drink the next time you find yourself in Miami for a quick weekend getaway!

We stayed at the chic art deco Raleigh Hotel that is right on Collins, which was an ideal location as it’s in walking distance to just about anywhere you want to go. We walked to dinner each night rode bikes on the boardwalk and popped down to the 1 Hotel for rooftop cocktails. Insider tip: Since we booked this trip less than two weeks out I used Booking.com to score an great deal on our room with a wonderful surprise upgrade too!

Nosh on this:

  • Do brunch at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, their buttermilk biscuit sandwiches are delightful and large enough to split!
  • While we grabbed coffee at The Raleigh every morning, we made a pit stop one day at Jugofresh, which is a local juice bar that was exactly what I needed following an evening of rose!
  • Do dinner at 27 at the Freehand – aside from the magical tiny patio setting the restaurant’s menu is family style, which I love because I’m a fan of ordering multiple dishes and trying as many things as possible! We had the whole fried daily catch that was impeccable as were all of the other dishes including the abuelas fricase de conejo and kimchi fried rice.

{Stating the obvious: Staying at a hotel on the beach is crucial. The Raleigh did not disappoint, they were on top of us having chairs at the beach, fresh towels and easy access to back up to the hotel.}Miami, The Raleigh, Summer, Vacation

{Sip a cocktail at: As mentioned in Monday’s post, hit the rooftop bar at the new 1 Hotel for an absolutely breathtaking sunset view, a little breeze and a glass of rose poolside.}

The Raleigh, VW, Beetle, Vacation

{Necessary cool ride: We scored this adorable little VW Beetle convertible from Avis that was the perfect car to bop around Miami in!}

{East coast perk: Living on the east coast does have a few perks … for example it’s ideal proximity to Florida when you need a break from the city. You can hop on a two and a half hour flight down to the beach with the snap of a finger sans battling it out on the LIE out east.  So the next time that you’re in need of a last minute beach getaway and that Hamptons share house is too packed for comfort … head south.} Miami, The Raleigh, Summer, Vacation, 33
