48 Hours in San Fran PLAEing, Eating & Drinking

Fast and furious trips out to the west coast have long been the norm for me, especially when I was working at an agency where I flew back and forth so often between LA and NYC that I asked to simply get an apartment out there! It’s been a few years though since I’ve had only a mere 48 hours on the west coast so I felt that an updated travel guide was necessary! As you saw on Instagram I jetted out to San Francisco this past weekend to PLAEwith the coolest sneaker brand, PLAE,  that you’ll see blowing up your feed in no time. Their brand philosophy is that age has no limit. It’s all about truly living a life that you are having fun living. Two things that I live by on a daily basis!

Their ethos: Our goal is to erase that line and harness the power of play for everyone—starting with shredding the notion of age limits, of growing up, of losing that spirit of joy. On our journey, we start by asking ourselves, and the world, “Do you still PLAE?”

What I love is that their team has fun together both in the office (did you see me on one of the many skateboards cruising around their office on stories?!?!) and outside of the office! They pulled together a list of their must eat, drink and PLAE spots in their home city, so check out where all I went last weekend!

Where to PLAE?

The Ferry Building’s Saturday Farmer’s Market– When you are visiting a city whether you’ve bene there before or it’s an entirely new you need to experience local food. I am a huge advocate for supporting local so when I found out that their Farmer’s Market was happening on Saturday I knew I had to hit that up! It was a great start to my day as it’s on the water and filled with little booths of local farmers, bakers and coffee makers. Plus you can always pop inside the Ferry Building if you don’t find what you’re looking for! For me I hit up two different bakeries, snagged a coffee from the Blue Bottle outside (the one inside the building has a crazy line!)

Bar BOCCE – This gem of a spot is on the other side of the bridge BUT it is 110% worth going to.  Head over the bridge, grab a bottle of wine, some beers or a pitcher of their delicious sangria, order one of their scrumptious pizza and set up shop on their back patio/deck area on the harbor to play an intense round or two of bocce with your friends. You may even make some new friends! I love this spot and so many locals do too!

Mission City Kayaks– While I did not get a chance to do this on this trip it is a must-do for sure! Kayaking around is a great combination of play and working out. You can’t go wrong with this and I highly recommend trying it. If kayaking sounds a bit too aggressive go rent bikes and bike along the water, cross over the famed Golden Gate Bridge and head to Bar BOCCE– everyone wins with that decision!

Where to Eat?

Olea–  In SF they take their brunch spots SERIOUSLY. Olea came highly recommended from a friend of mine who lives in SF and she nailed it with the recommendation. It was downright delightful!.  Definitely get the French toast! It was outstanding!

Liholiho Yacht Club – Wow. Another gem of a recommendation from the PLAE team. The food was stellar – who knew that Hawaiian food was so good?!?! Plus they have fried oysters and delightful drinks! Definitely don’t skip out on the baked Hawaii for dessert – you won’t regret it.

Commis– Since the PLAE fall fashion show was being held at The Brickyard in Oakland – definitely the coolest of cool spots – we got a chance to check this hot spot out! Get the wings. Trust me on this. As a wing connoisseur this is definitely the place to try them, they do have a kick so be cautious of that!

Where to Drink?

In 48 hours you aren’t going to have time to do everything yu want to but definitely make grabbing a drink at Charmaine’s  a priority. I learned that it is the absolute hottest spot in SF right now – located in the Proper Hotel with a killer rooftop too!  I sadly did not have time to wait in the line that wrapped around the building (get there early!!!) I did go inside the hotel to Villion for a glass of rose and was not disappointed. The eclectic décor and friendly staff made it entirely OK that I didn’t get up to the roof! Just means I’ll have to get back to SF sooner vs later!

Travel tips:

Wear comfy shoes. Holy moly the hills. I forget about these every time I go to SF and every time I am inevitably buying new shoes. Luckily my partner on this trip, PLAE, supplied me with a pair of ridiculously comfortable shoes. I love the PLAE Larkin’s because not only are they comfy but they also go with everything. I wore mine with a two piece set, jeans and a sweater and even with a long Tibi maxi dress for their UNLEASHED fashion show on Saturday night!

This was not my first time to SF in July but I did forget how chilly it is! So I found myself running to Nordstrom and tackling their Anniversary Sale at the last minute to scoop up a pair of jeans, a sweater and even found myself getting that Alice & Olivia blazer because my jean jacket just was not going to suffice!!

Here’s why I partnered with PLAE

They are a brand that lives by what they put out. Every pair of PLAE shoes is hand-crafted by a team of workers, with many pairs of hands adding their special touch to each pair that arrives at your door – pretty cool right?? See the silver circle on the shoes? That is embossed by hand!!

While they look cool they are also one of the most comfortable shoes that I own and will be continuing to wear on a daily basis. For someone like myself who has a knee injury and constantly walking six plus miles around the city or on a trip having a great pair of shoes to wear with support is crucial!

They give back and in an awesome way! You may have seen on my instastories where I mentioned the PLAE it Forward program. PLAE gives 10% of all sales done on their website to a charity of YOUR choice. How cool is that? In just a little over 4 years they have raised more than $1MM for charities.

Charity, PLAE It Forward, On the 10, PLAE sneakers, Nordstrom, Street Style, Travel Blogger, San Francisco,

Their new collection that I got to see head down the runway at their UNLEASHED fashion show will be available in the fall! I cannot wait to get my hands on their hightops. These purple suede guys are still running around in my dreams!

oh I love SF!!! Need to totally add these to my list when i go back this fall! And I have kids – we LOVE PLAE shoes, such a great company that I’m really happy to see has expanded to adult shoes! The ones you have are so cute, I never would be able to pull off the little set with them but it’s so cute!
